What is Sondheim?

The Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program is one of seven themed “Scholars Programs” offered by UMBC. Students selected for the program receive generous four-year scholarships to attend UMBC, membership in a community of peers who share their interests, and access to a host of other benefits and programming including special courses, mentorship, events, and additional financial awards.

The Sondheim Program welcomes students from all majors, backgrounds, and political persuasions. What unites Sondheim Scholars is their concern about problems in society and their drive to make a difference through various forms of public service and/or public policy, inside or outside of government. Sondheim Scholars are known both for their academic excellence and their high levels of community engagement and/or leadership, on or off campus.
